Welcome to the Honeywood Heritage Nursery

Honeywood Receives Provincial Heritage Designation

The Honorable Nancy Heppner (Saskatchewan's Minister of Environment) & Judy Harley (Honeywood Manager) unveil the Heritage Nursery designation plaque.

In 2007, Honeywood Heritage Nursery was designated as a Provincial Heritage Property by the Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport.

The unveiling ceremony took place during our Lilies in Bloom event on July 20th, 2008.

The inscription on the plaque reads:
Established in 1934 by Dr. A.J. (Bert) Porter, the Honeywood Nursery played an important role in the development of horticulture in Western Canada. A country school teacher with no formal horticultural training, Porter developed some of the first fruit varieties and ornamental plants capable of thriving on the prairies. Porter was best-known as a hybridizer of lilies, winning numerous awards for his work. Many of the plants he developed still thrive on these grounds and are reminders of his life-long commitment to the propagation of plants and fruit species on the prairies. Over its 65 years in operation, Honeywood produced plants, bulbs and saplings which beautified farmyards and gardens across Saskatchewan, Canada and around the world.

Exclusive Terry Willoughby Introductions

Honeywood Heritage Nursery is proud to be the introducer of two of Terry Willoughby's Asiatic lilies! We have the exclusive to these lilies for 5 years.

Terry Willoughby is a founding member of the Alberta Regional Lily Society and is a member of the North American Lily Society. Terry's obsession is hybridizing Martagon lilies and is very successful with Asiatics as well. He has been growing and crossing lilies for over 20 years and is considered an expert in his field.

In 2007 Terry named and registered two of his (NALS 2005) prize winning Asiatic seedlings and named Honeywood Heritage Nursery as the Introducer for these lilies. He kindly donated a quantity of bulbs from each variety so that we are able to offer these prize winning lilies for sale. Honeywood has the privilege to be the exclusive source for these lilies and they will therefore not be found at any other outlet.

Thank you Terry!
